I wasn’t sure what I was supposed to feel right now.

I should be angry. I think I was. But, watching her walk out like that made me regret how harshly I spoke to her. Could I blame her? For wanting her family’s happiness? I’d do anything to get mine back. I knew how manipulative her father was as well. I wouldn’t doubt he used her.

Planting myself back on the sofa, I ran a frustrated hand through my hair, tilting my head back and tightening my eyes. Her floral scent lingered on my skin. I closed my eyes and recollected the last few minutes with her.

Her lips were softer, more tender than I’d expected. Her skin against mine was addicting. Hell, if I wasn’t so mad at her, I wouldn’t have given her a reason to leave. I wouldn’t have let her go. To walk out of here feeling so displeased. I would have cancelled this entire meeting just for her. A part of me was hurt but relieved that in the end, she hadn’t gone through with it. If anything, I was mad at her father for trying to manipulate her. For getting inside her head. For trying to trick her and then abandon her afterward. He had no intention of mending her family’s lost happiness. He was a selfish bastard and no one knew about his truth better than I did.
