Fatal Alliances: Chapter 9.5

Fatal Alliances by Celine Mahadeo

She tightened her arms around me, sinking her face into my chest. I could feel the heat dancing off her soft breaths as she pressed further in. She didn’t let go. And quite honestly, I didn’t want her to. I’m not sure why. Apart from that, I had to get her out of this, she was turning into a vegetable. Clearly, she was in pain. All she had to do was tell me. Tell me, Greene.

From my peripheral vision, I observed how she tightened her eyes and pressed her cheeks into the cold leather of the seat. Her hand clutched onto her stomach, almost digging into it. She was mumbling something, but it was all gibberish.

“Adrian,” she whispered my name so softly it almost sounded pretty. “Thank you, for getting me out of there.”

My stomach twisted as I tightened my hands on the steering wheel. She’s in pain and there’s nothing I can do for her right now. I stepped on the gas, trying to get us back to the hotel. To hell with the speeding limit.

“Stop it! I didn’t eat anything because I couldn’t eat anything at that time! Why are you always so mean to me? All you’ve ever been is rude towards me, I mean, I know you’ve helped so many times but that doesn’t give you the right to treat me the way you do.” I said bitterly.

She seemed to be getting better the way she was talking to me right now. Maybe I should have just left her to wilt back there. But I couldn’t bring myself to it. Maybe I’m just a weak man. Maybe I’m just like every man. Strands of her dark hair fell over her ears from the messy bun she tied it into. Her lipstick smeared ever so slightly at the corner of her lips. It was almost inviting. And I was almost tempted. I certainly am a weak man. Especially right now. She looked at me with those needy, striking eyes, tugging me into her very soul. And I- I didn’t mind taking a taste of her unconventional messy beauty. Her throat throbbed as she bumped into the pantry behind. Did I make her nervous? Good. At least we both felt something. And I’ll be damned if she didn’t. But I had to control this bizarre temptation of mine. I had to walk away before we both did something we’d regret.

The timer went off and I was able to peel myself away. And in doing so, I certainly regretted it.
