Damned: Chapter 32) Premium Nonsense
Adrian Vandermir was a curious man but overall I was entirely grateful for his help and hospitability towards my needs. He even offered me his bed however I refused as I felt more comfortable sleeping on the sofa. And he meant that in the most decent manner possible. I don’t think he however slept throughout the rest of the night. Before I could have asked him anything, I drifted into a warm welcoming slumber.
Awoken by the sunshine, I slipped off the sofa and fell to the ground.
“Ow,” I groaned tiredly, pushing myself up but my noodle arms gave way again.
“Would you like me to help you?” I noticed Adrian sitting at the table while sipping on his tea calmly and reading a magazine.
“No.”
“Good.”
What a rude man.
“One of the maids brought up some clothes for you. You can freshen up and have breakfast when you’re done.”
Honestly, he was doing more than I bargained for. “Thank you, Adrian.”
Saying his name made him look up to me and there was a hint of softness I picked up from his usual winter-like expressions. Yet, he said nothing but nod nonchalantly at me. After freshening up, I wore jeans and a casual white tee and came out of the room to meet him back there again, this time with his laptop.
“You don’t move, do you?” I arched an eyebrow.
“When necessary,” he responded.
“Something also tells me you ain’t got no woman.”
He didn’t respond to that.
“Okay then,” I shifted uncomfortably in my place. He definitely had Marley’s no woman no cry on repeat on a playlist.
“Would you like me to call Moville?”
“No,” I sighed, “I think it’s best if I leave alone and without meeting anyone. I don’t like saying goodbyes.”
“I understand.”
“Well,” I awkwardly stated while picking up the keys to the car, “I guess I’ll go now.”
“I can see why you’re so terrible at it,” He almost laughed.
“Not the worst okay.”
“Wait,” he called me back, “I have something for you.”
He held with him a red cloth that covered an object and handed it to me.
“Only use it if necessary. I have a little trust that you won’t use it otherwise nor loosely.”
“Ohmygod,” I panicked a little as I unwrapped the cloth to see a gun, “I mean, chocolates would have been a better departing gift, I’m just saying.”
“I sure hope I’m making the right decision by giving this to you.” He frowned.
“I sure hope so too.”
“There is a cellphone on the countertop, take it on your way out. I included all necessary contacts. If you ever need any of us, don’t hesitate to call.”
Nodding, I then made my way to the door until I stopped and turned back towards him, “Adrian, can I ask you for one more favor?”
“What’s that?” he asked quite confused.
“I need a few photos photoshopped.”
Knitting his eyebrows, he answered sternly, “Once there’s a good reason behind it.”
Thankfully, he agreed to do as I asked. I swiped through the photos I requested and grinned slyly at my plan. This is actually going to be quite fun now. I exited the hotel and sat in the driver’s seat of the vehicle ensuring I had all items. Was I really going to do this?
Hell yeah.
Slipping on a pair of sunglasses, I turned the volume on the radio up and drove off. I calculated the time I’d take to get there by driving. So, I’m in New York right now which means I’d take a little more than three hours to arrive in Connecticut. Grabbing the letter I took from Vitaly’s room out of my bag, I memorized the address written at the top corner. This was the only place that I’d truly ever be safe. I’d also not risk putting anyone else’s life in danger as I felt like I always did. Forgive me Moe for leaving you behind like this. It’s for the best.
All this driving was making me feel quite hungry so I drove at a nearby fast-food drive-through and grabbed a burger with fries. No way was I getting out of this car. I had too many admirers who all wanted to kill me apparently. I was almost there. Entering the state of Connecticut, I felt a sense of relief wash over me. All this driving was draining. I drove into one of the small towns and entered a neat little neighbourhood. What a cute little place with white picket fences and colourful houses which gave such a cozy and safe atmosphere. I scanned my eyes across the address one last time and connected it to the house address in front of me. So this is it.
I parked in the driveway and stepped out feeling a bit uneasy but I sucked it up and headed to the door, ringing the doorbell once.
What the hell am I really doing?
No. No.
Stick to the plan.
Staying here would buy me more time.
I rang the doorbell once more and took a deep breath until a decently aged woman opened the door quite confused. She stared at me with her honeyed brown eyes and dark brown hair that was complemented by a few strands beginning to grey which was tied in a messy bun.
“Mrs. Rostov.” I smiled sweetly.
