Damned: Chapter 40) Holding Guns
“If you take one step towards her, I will rip your arms off and stick it up your anus,” Natalia warned as she placed herself as a shield against Vitaly.
His deep icy blue eyes seemed to burn down towards her as he held a hardened serious expression, “I’m not here to hurt Miss Donovan.”
He was about to take a step in when she stopped him again.
“Or anyone for the matter,” he scowled, “I was requested.”
“Who called you?” Natalia asked confused.
“I did,” Archer answered as he walked towards us and signaled Natalia to allow Vitaly to enter.
Hesitant, she moved as Vitaly stood before me yet his expression somewhat softened. Turning to Archer, I frowned disappointedly.
“I trusted you,” I said disappointed in him.
“Katherine it’s not like that, he’s going to help us.”
“He can’t help anyone but himself.” I hissed as glared at him.
At that moment, Anthony walked out of the washroom but stumbled back in shock as he saw Vitaly.
“Why is he here?”
“You Donovans really know how to welcome a guest.” Vitaly smiled sarcastically.
“There’s only one Donovan here and that’s me,” Anthony scowled bitterly as he looked towards Archer and I, “I want and will have nothing to do with you Devereuxs.”
The sudden sound of a gunshot and screams downstairs alerted us.
“What was that?” Natalia alarmed.
“I’ll check,” Archer said about to leave when she held him back.
“You can’t leave us.”
“Trust me.” He said as he placed a hand over hers and gave her a reassuring smile before he left and shut the door, leaving me, Natalia, Anthony, and of course Vitaly inside.
“I wouldn’t if I were you,” I scoffed, “I did, and look who brother dearest called here.”
“Katrina, we need to talk.”
“There’s nothing to talk about. I got your message when you tried to have me killed. Oh, and it’s Katherine.” I shot back at him.
I was about to walk away but he held me back to him, pulling me devilishly closer to him yet like the devil masked a sweet comfort to the nearness.
“You have to listen to me.”
“No Vitaly, I don’t have to. And I won’t. You had your chance and you chose to break my trust and my-”
I stopped abruptly unsure of what I was even going to say and for a brief second, it felt like a weight pulling something within my chest down as he stared at me.
“Your-?”
“Just forget it,” I said softly as I pulled away and sat on the edge of the bed avoiding contact with him.
“She probably meant to say you broke her bones at some point, brother.” Natalia venomed.
Before he could have responded the sound of loud bangs outside alerted us. It sounded really close like the rooms next door. Vitaly signaled us to remain put as he slightly opened the door and etched out his gun from his pocket.
“Stay here.” He instructed as he slipped through the door and began shooting. I glimpsed out the door where I saw some men banging through the motel rooms and others coming at Vitaly. Natalia grabbed a gun out of her purse.
“I have to help him.”
“You’ll get hurt.” I panicked.
“He’s my brother.” She said before she left.
When she said that I felt a sense of guilt in me, a self-centeredness. I lost track of why I did all this in the first place, for my brother- blood or not. I loved him and no matter how much of a douche he may be, we had to keep each other safe.
“Let’s get out of here, Katherine!” Anthony shouted as Natalia stood at the door holding it open and hit a man in the face with the back of her gun.
To the left, I saw Vitaly who pushed a man off the opposite flight of stairs and punched another in his face as blood drew out.
“Katherine, come on, he’ll be fine,” Natalia said as they rushed down the stairs.
Back in the room, I remembered I left my bag which had the gun that Adrian gave me. Rushing back in, I quickly scrabbled through the bag and grabbed it out, leaving the room to hit into a solid-looking man who tried to grab hold of me but I bit him and kicked him in the shin.
“Be glad I didn’t shoot you in the other tibia.” I gloated.
“What?”
“Should’ve stayed in school, son.” I scoffed and punched him in the face bruising my hand.
“Dirty little b*tch.” He pulled me back and slammed me up against the wall.
“Afraid that’s mine, sorry.” Vitaly ripped him off me and shot him in the chest, “Let’s go.”
“I’m my own person’s person.” I hissed as we rushed down the stairs.
“Explains why you’re holding a gun and couldn’t fking shoot the man.”
“Tell me where you want to be shot and gladly I’d do it without hesitation.”
He chuckled, “I believe you.”
We were about to leave the motel lobby when a man stood in front of us aiming a gun but was quickly gunned down from the back. As he fell, Nikolai stood smugly, “Nice to see you too big brother.”
As we walked into the carpark Anthony and Moe were examining one of the dead men, while Natalia stood nearby, and Archer was speaking to an elderly man. Vitaly walked towards him.
“Who are they?” I asked
“Vincelli’s men.” Nik frowned, looking down at the body.
“This seemed more like a warning than an attack,” Moe stated.
“Because it was,” Archer answered, “There’ll be more. We need to leave. I already handled the situation here with the manager. Thank God this place is so remote.”
“By handled you mean bribed to shut up?” Anthony asked in disgust, “Saw it runs in the family.”
Okay, that hurt.
“What is your problem, Donovan?” Archer finally snapped at him angrily snatching him by the collar, “Katherine risked her life to find you, I’m starting to think she shouldn’t have wasted her time for someone as pitiful as you.”
“Leave it,” Vitaly said as he separated them both, “As much as I’d love to see you tear him limb by limb, now isn’t the time.”
“Exactly, I need more popcorn for this.” Moe frowned.
Nik laughed, “Alright, what do we do now?”
“I know a place,” Natalia answered, “We should leave now.”
“Go on, I’ll follow behind,” Vitaly stated.
