Fatal Alliances: Chapter 49
We stopped at the middle of the flight of stairs as he cut off the rope from my tied hands and gently undid the piece that was tied over my mouth, touching my lips and the side of my cheek with his thumb.
“You came back,” I said almost in a whisper with a soft smile.
“Somehow, I figured you were going to get yourself in some kind of trouble.”
He kept his aching grey eyes on me in regret, “I shouldn’t have left you here.” he breathed.
“You didn’t know, Adrian. I’m fine, really.” I assured him.
“If Finny wasn’t there-“
“You would’ve handled the situation well, like you always do. I know you would have.” I smiled.
“I’m sorry.” he sighed, kissing my forehead as he cupped my face in his hands.
The police and ambulance ascended into the room of the incident, as I saw Finny leaving from there with an anguished expression. He came down to meet us with a half-smile. I thought he would just leave but he placed his hand on my head and pulled me into an embrace.
“I’m sorry Julie, you had to go through all that because-“
“I told you two already,” pulling away slightly shaking my head, “Don’t worry about me, I’m alright.”
Just as he was about to say something, Donnie called us from down the staircase, “You should really get down here, Kit-Kat.”
Following Donnie to the foyer, Ricardo stood next to a man who looked somewhat like a lawyer.
The man approached me.
“You must be Juliet,” he paused as he stared at me with a sigh, “Greene? Rocillie’s daughter?”
“Umm, yes. What is all this?”
“My name’s Ted J. Smith. I do all the paperwork and legal matters for Xavier Rocillie, and I’m also a good friend of his. So, I’ve come here to ensure that you accept all the responsibilities of his will.”
Right, Rocillie had given everything to me. This was too crazy. I couldn’t accept all this. It didn’t feel like mine for some reason. It wasn’t. And the responsibilities, this wasn’t just managing a regular café at a corner street, these were companies that were situated in all different parts of the world. Well, thank goodness that I don’t have to have anything to do with the Covert Partnership because it was over but that had nothing to do with Rocillie’s other businesses. I didn’t know if I could handle that. I didn’t have the experience yet.
“I’m sorry, I-I don’t think I would be able to.”
“Excuse me?” he asked stunned by my answer.
“All this is just…” I stopped giving a frustrated sigh, when suddenly Adrian stepped up next to me.
“She’ll accept the offer.”
“Well, that’s great because I wouldn’t know what to do if she didn’t. Rocillie made it specifically clear to me that she’ll accept and take responsibility.” the man stated, giving me a folder, “As for now, here’s a list of all the entities and their profits made which are banked.”
Opening it, I saw that there was a part on the Covert Partnership. Oh, so he knew. The money which Rocillie made on this was insane. It just made me so mad thinking about what he did to gained all this.
“And everything’s yours,” he continued.
“I want you to do something for me, Ted.” I began firmly pointing at the covert partnership figures, “Get rid of all this, I don’t want a cent in this account.”
“M-miss?” he stammered, shocked.
“You heard what I said. This money wasn’t made in the right way. People suffered because of this and now I want to give it back. Share it amongst the homes, orphanages, charities, anyone who is in need of it. That was initially its main objective right? It wasn’t for the profit anyway.”
“Alright miss, I will keep in contact with you.” he sighed and greeted me goodbye.
“Why did you do that?” I turned to Adrian a bit annoyed, “Do you know what you just did to me? That’s a lot of work and responsibilities.”
“I always knew you were McGregor’s theory X” he smirked.
I couldn’t believe him! He was insulting me using his sugar-coated business language!
“No Adrian, she’s trying to say that it’s like giving a three-year-old pencils instead of crayons.” Donnie laughed.
That was enough, I couldn’t believe they were making fun of me. And that joke wasn’t even funny, to begin with, it was totally lame.
“Stop it, you all are horrible.”
“Tell us something we don’t know.” Donnie continued his laughing.
“Don’t worry, Ricardo and Donnie would take care of Rocillie’s business for you,” Adrian assured me with a half-smile.
Somehow, I felt a little better about that. Suddenly, one of the housemaids came up to me with a sad smile. I remembered her, she was there helping Lucas. Oh God, Lucas.
“Miss, I have some news.”
“Is he alright?” I panicked.
“Well,”
“Well?”
“I’m sorry, but the doctors had said he sustained an injury to his head as well, and… he fell into a coma.”
Hearing that, I felt sudden grief-struck over me. Well, at least he was still alive, right? God, I wanted to patch things up with him. I wanted to fix our relationship, to have a brother. I didn’t want his to happen to him even though he was horrible to me. Why did Melissa have to do this?
Why did she have to stab him?
“Julie, I’m sorry,” Finny said, placing a comforting hand on my shoulder.
“I-It’s alright I just… It’s fine.”
I wished it was. I wish the future will be.
“We should leave.” Ricardo suggested, “I don’t see any reason we should stay here again.”
He was right. There was no reason to be here again, in this place, in this house. Without a family, a house just feels empty and incomplete.

Hi Aparna, I really like that idea of a sequel but as of now, I don’t think I will due to other stories being currently written.
