Fatal Alliances: Chapter 6

I felt so stiff, so cramped. I tried to turn myself around from this awful position I was sleeping in.

Nice mistake.

“Ow…” I groaned as I tried to get myself up from falling on the ground.

“Juliet!” A new, familiar voice rang. Finny. “Oh my God, are you alright?” He asked as he helped me up.

“Wow, this is the first girl I ever saw that slept so much. I almost thought you were dead.” I heard another voice say with a laugh. Donnie.

Trying to open my eyes fully seemed impossible, it actually hurt being around all this light.

“I- what?” Was all that managed to come out of my mouth. I had actually wanted to ask what time it was, but my sleepy aftereffects were kicking in, making it impracticable to speak aloud.

As my vision became clearer, I got a view of everyone. Finny was standing near me with that boyish charm and Donnie, sitting at the table with Adrian, stared at me with a smile. Adrian, of course, didn’t bother looking at me. He just kept drinking whatever he had in his cup and reading a file.

“You should have let her sleep in the bed, Adrian. You didn’t even sleep there last night.” Finny said in a weary tone, almost as if he was a bit frustrated.

There was no response to that. How typical Vandermir. I struggled it off and asked, “What time is it?”

“Two in the afternoon, you could sure sleep a lot, I have to admit,” Finny said with a small laugh.

Oh my God. Was it really that time?

“Well, it’s good that you’re awake now. I got something for you,” He continued as he gave me a large bag.

Placing the bag in my hands I saw there were a number of clothes, makeup, and other essential stuff inside it. “Oh, you didn’t have to get me anything,” I replied a bit awkwardly.

No stranger ever went through this much trouble for me before.

“Yes, clothing isn’t that essential to her Finneas so why must you go through that much trouble?” I heard Adrian with his icy silk voice, chuckle.

That dog.

He still hadn’t looked at me. My anger toiled already and it hasn’t even been a full five minutes since I woke up. Almost as if Finny knew I was going to snap, he interrupted me, “Come on,” He said as he pulled me into the office room with him.

“I don’t even know what to tell you, Finneas. I’ve only met you yesterday and you’ve only been kind to me.” I stated a bit embarrassed.

“Don’t make me feel like a stranger, Juliet.”

But we are.

There was something about him, I was confused as to how someone as generous as him could be friends with someone like Adrian Vandermir. What did he have to do with those dangerous men like Ricardo and Donnie? He was nothing like any of them.

“What’s with you?” I asked a bit curious, “Why are you so nice to me? Everyone else here has been a pain, so why aren’t you?”

My question seemed to falter his innocent smile. I didn’t mean to say anything hurtful to him, then why did he look like he was in pain?

“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said anything,” I said, taking it back regretfully. Right now, I didn’t want to get on the wrong side of the only one who’s been genuinely kind to me.

“You just remind me of someone who was once close to me.” He answered putting his smile back on, but for some reason, it looked broken.

“Oh, I see.”

“So,” he continued, changing the topic and walking towards the bookshelf scanning through the books, “I believe Adrian told you why you’re here now?”

“Yes,” I sighed, “In his own screwed-up way, he did.”

“You judge him too harshly.” Finny laughed, “He isn’t a bad guy, you know.”

“My, you’re awfully fond of him.”

“Actually, in a brotherly way, I am. Maybe you need to give him some time.”

“Any more time and I’d be dead.” I scoffed.

“I’m actually surprised with you, women normally love him and die to just be seen with him, yet you want to keep your distance. I find it rather amusing.”

This kid was crazy.

“Can we stop? I’m starting to get the chills just thinking about him.” I said in a playful tone which made him gave another one of his cute boyish laughs.

“Alright, just get ready quickly. I’m sure you’re hungry.” He said as he walked out.

The clothes which he bought were really adorable, there was this really cute white dress with pink polka dots. Although it was a bit short, it was decent. After brushing my teeth, showering, changing, and combing my hair, I headed back out where I saw Adrian alone. Great. He was still ignoring me. Such a bastard. Spitefully, I sat on the chair in front of him, resting my elbows on the table.

“I’m hungry,” I said, trying to get his attention.

“Call room service.” He replied, still continuing to ignore me.

“Can’t you cook?”

“Can’t you ever shut up?”

“Hmm, who lit the fuse to your tampon?” I giggled back.

It seemed like I was reaching his limit because he took his stuff and went into the office room without sparing me one glace. Wow, he must really be mad about something. Whatever, I mean, why should I care? Ignoring that, I headed to see what he had in his refrigerator.

Oh… My… God.

It was a little kid’s dream inside there. There was a variety of chocolate, all were dark though. That was like heaven for me, because I loved dark chocolate! There were also a mega variety of ice creams, fruits, yogurts, etc. What really struck me was that large amount of dark chocolate. Adrian Vandermir has a sweet tooth? Wow, I didn’t see that one coming. I took one of the large chocolate bars and shut the fridge before I actually fainted. This guy is nuts, maybe he’s so irritable, energetic, and snappy because of consuming so much candy? I mean yeah, he got a couple of fruits and salads and non-fat yogurt, but really? Was he in a secret partnership with Willy Wonka?

I walked up and down the place chomping on that chocolate bar. Honestly, I was becoming really frustrated just being alone and it hadn’t even been fifteen minutes since he went into that room. I’m going to talk to him whether he likes it or not. Sitting at the desk doing some sort of paperwork, I entered without a word or knock which annoyed him because I saw the quick furrow on his eyebrows.

“I’m bored,” I said childishly as I sat on top of his desk.

It seemed to surprise him and at the same time irritate him even more because I was, like he would say, ‘a nuisance’.  He kept continuing his ignorance on me, but spoke nonetheless in a careless manner, “What do you want me to do about it?”

“You’re such a drag,” I stated, bringing my feet up the desk.

“Get off.”

“No way. By the way, do you want?” I asked him, waving the half bar of chocolate in front of his face.

“Move,” he demanded again, but I simply overlooked that command.

“Don’t tell me what to do. Anyway, what I want to know, Mr. Wonka, is why you have that much chocolate? Maybe you should stop with all that, I mean, it isn’t doing you any good. You can’t make something bitter be sweet, just like you; no matter how much chocolate you eat, nothing can mend that cold metal heart of yours.” I said, poking his chest with a smug smile on my face, and a voice dripping of sugar and snide. Suddenly, he pulled me across the table on top of him and dangerously slid his hand on my waist.

“This is uncalled for,” I stated as I gritted my teeth.

Damn, I should have worn a longer dress today.

“You wanted my attention? You were bored? My type of games isn’t the kinds you play Greene, so you should know who you’re dealing with.”

“Let go of me.”

“Not yet.” He said as he mirrored that same smug look I had on my face just a minute ago.

“Am I interrupting something here?” A voice abruptly appeared from behind.

Ricardo walked in as if nothing was happening. Quickly pulling away from Vandermir, I straightened my dress neatly as he got up and leaned in front of the desk to talk to Ricardo. I’d never thought I’d see the day when I was happy to see Ricardo. Not that I knew them all so well.

“Nothing was being interrupted, I was just teaching Ms. Greene some manners,” Adrian said with a chuckle.

Manners?

“Go to hell.” I muttered to myself but he heard me, they both did.

“Maybe next we’ll do something about that mouth of yours, it seems to have no training whatsoever.” He smirked.

This was it. He was just too horrible.

“Damn you.” I hissed as I went into his room and slammed the door behind me.
