Fatal Alliances: Chapter 7.5

I should hate this girl. She’s nothing but problems. And yet, I find it most difficult to stare away right now. Her dark hair tousled down her back and over her shoulder as she leaned against the leather interior of the limo. She pressed her head gently against it as her eyes grew wary and distant. She’d been peeling the dead skin off her fingertips subconsciously since we got in here. Were the heels really that high? I shouldn’t have asked the lady for the best pair. I should have just gone with the most comfortable pair. It was my fault. But how was I to know she couldn’t walk in them? How was I to know anything about her?
The navy gown clung to her body effortlessly. If anything, she could easily get mistaken for an angel fallen upon the earth. God. I pushed the thought away. What the actual fk was I saying? She was a fallen angel sure, one just like Lucifer at least. Fallen upon me to frustrate the living daylight out of me. Her face glowed under the moonlight as she bit her bottom lip anxiously. Juliet dragged her gaze, meeting mine and for a brief moment, something shifted inside me. Something dark and hungry and starved. I ripped my gaze away from hers, controlling whatever was beginning to possess me.
Donnie, who sat next to her and opposite me, arched a brow towards me. I couldn’t have been staring that long. Was I? Fk.
The vehicle stopped thankfully, allowing us to all get out. I shouldn’t be so concerned about the girl, but what if she falls and hurts herself? That’s another issue I don’t want to deal with. At least not tonight. Or at all to be honest. I wouldn’t have even attended this function if it wasn’t for the business meeting I’d been putting off for months. Thank god I had the others to help with it.
The girl paused before stepping out of the vehicle, but I extended my arm to help. Her eyes slightly widened, and her lips parted ever so softly. I wasn’t that much of a monster. I could still be a gentleman and help her out of the vehicle. She remained quiet and followed behind as we walked towards the function.
“Oh my God.” She froze beside me, not daring herself to take a step in.
What in the devil’s hell was she doing now?
“What’s wrong with you now?” I asked. My voice came out harsher than I intended it.
“I can’t go in there. Please don’t make me go in there.” she panicked, her cheeks reddened as she took a step back from the room.
“Hell, you’re afraid of people now, Greene?”
“No, I’m not. It’s just- the floor,” she replied as she kept frightful eyes glued on the glass floor.
“Don’t be such a baby. You won’t fall through.”
“Look, Vandermir, I’ve had it with you. I didn’t say no to coming here, I didn’t not wear these heels. But this you can’t do to me. You can’t just expect me to get over something that I’ve been afraid of for years in just one day.”
She exhaled the entire sentence in one gulp. Her brows furrowed tightly together as she frowned heavily. Clearly, she wasn’t afraid of me as most people were, and I wasn’t sure if I liked that about her or not.
“I can’t believe I’m doing this,” I muttered to myself. No matter how much of a thorn she was on my side, I didn’t want to see her embarrass herself in front of these people. “Take my arm, I’ll hold you.”

“Because I’m just the second choice for the women, right?” He laughed again, “You’re the first.”
Was O’Neil ever going to shut the fk up and let us through? I was growing tired of this man. And something twisted within me the way he kept looking at the girl with hungry, lustful eyes. He made a comment that, by her expression, repulsed her. That’s my good girl.
“So who’s this beautiful arm candy of yours tonight?” Mr. O’Neil asked as he absorbed her features yet again.
This man was pathetic.
“How intoxicating she is.” He continued, unable to help himself.
If he fking touches her, I’ll rip his arm off. I swear on the heavens and hells.
He reached forward with his hand. Over my dead body. I tugged her gently back.
“Please, Mr O’Neil, don’t touch her.” It took all I had in me to control my tone and the anger stirring within me. I didn’t bring her here to get harassed.
Judging by the look on his face, O’Neil was pissed and insulted.
“You seem to take a liking to this one, boy,” he replied. keeping his irritation on the low.
She wasn’t an object. His gaze was challenging. He wasn’t going to let this go. I had to do something to get him off her trail.
“I have actually,” I said pleasantly to the man. God help me with what I’m going to say. “She is my fiancée after all.”
