Damned: Chapter 19) Violate
The sound of distant chatting crawled into my ears.
My eyelids felt heavy as they tried to force themselves open. Everywhere ached as I shifted on a soft plush bed, my vision was blurred at first but cleared as I blinked a few times. Where was I? The room in which I was in was huge and gave of this affluent ambiance.
Katrina.
I knew that voice.
“V-vitaly?” I mumbled as the pain diffused within me.
I tightened my eyes from the ache.
“Katherine, it’s alright baby. Look at me.”
Squinting my eyes back open, I noted Vitaly kneeling at the side of the bed. He helped me sit upright.
“You’re here.” I breathed softly.
“My Angel needed me,” he smirked as he cupped my cheeks, slightly twisting his fingers into my hair.
I let out a soft fragile laugh at that, “Did you bring the ice-cream?”
“We have a lot here.” a husky familiar voice interrupted. Dmitri.
My eyes widened and I went into a state of panic.
“Katherine, it’s fine. He can’t hurt you.” Vitaly tried to reassure me.
“Vitaly he-”
“I know.” He frowned and shot Dmitri a murderous glance.
Dmitri neared the bed and chuckled, “If only I had my way I would’ve-”
In that exact moment, Vitaly shot up and grabbed him by the collar angrily, “You would’ve what?”
“Dmitri,” a woman’s calm voice suddenly injected, “Mr. Rostov and Miss Donovan are our guests. Conduct yourself.”
The strange, tall, middle-aged woman stood at the door like some sort of goddess. Elegance and intensity laced her ambiance. I got off the bed and tried to steady myself. Dmitri scowled and walked out of the room after the woman left, while Vitaly and I stood behind.
“What is this?” I frowned.
“I’ll explain to you later.” He mirrored back, “Come on.”
With that, he walked out of the room and I achingly followed. I stopped where he stood in a huge living room. The woman stood at the center while two girls sat on the sofa. One seemed to be around Vitaly’s age while the other looked around eighteen. Dmitri leaned casually at the side with folded arms and a wicked smile.
“Please, Mark, get Miss Donovan something to drink.” The woman instructed one of her employees.
“I’m fine,” I stated. I wasn’t going to accept drinks from strangers. Not again.
“Then show her to a room. She must want to freshen up.”
Truthfully, she was a bit right. I did want to take a bath so badly but, hell no, I wasn’t going to do it here.
“Take Mr. Rostov as well.” The woman finished.
Vitaly frowned yet instructed me to follow the employee who took us upstairs.
“Would you like separate rooms?” he asked suddenly stopping and turned towards us.
“No.” I quickly stated, “We’ll stay together.”
With a nod, the employee opened a room door and smiled as he left.
“Stay together?” Vitaly teased as we walked into the room.
“I am never leaving your side.” I stated angrily, “Do you hear me, Rostov? Never. And you’re not leaving mine either.”
“Hmm, demanding much?”
“No, I’m just making things clear between us.” I frowned.
“You sound like my wife.”
“Wife.” I scoffed while sitting on the edge of the bed, “There’s another ‘Oksana’ you haven’t told me about?”
Vitaly’s face seemed to turn to a hard expression of distaste. He walked towards me, kneeling on the ground, and took my hand in his, “I need you to trust me, Katherine.”
His voice was oddly soft yet it was sincere. It wasn’t normal hearing him in this tone of voice. I liked it, but I hated it at the same time. It made me feel as if he was hurt and unsure of what to do.
Within that moment, there was another knock at the door. An elderly employee stood there with a subtle smile, “These are some clothes for the madam if she wishes to change.”
Vitaly casually stood and took the clothing with a nod while shutting the door.
“Change.” He stated while tossing the clothes at me.
“I don’t want to.”
“Stop being stubborn, Katherine. Here isn’t the place for you to show your attitude. I’m trying to get you out of this shit. The least you can do is co-operate with me.”
I thought about what he said for a second and I felt guilty, but then again I was in this mess because of him as well. So basically, we’re in this crap together.
“Fine.” I pouted and hugged the clothes to my chest with a sigh as I stood up.
Walking towards the bathroom, I stopped in place and frowned.
“What’s wrong?” Vitaly asked in that warm winter voice of his.
“Rostov,” I breathed turning back at him, “This place, Dmitri, those people.. they’re-”
He looked at me almost in a challenge to continue.
“They’re Oksana’s family, aren’t they?”
When he didn’t answer, my fear was confirmed.
“They want to kill me, don’t they?” my panic flared once again.
“They’ll do no such thing.” He scowled, “Not as long as I’m alive.”
Somehow that seemed to comfort me yet worry me at the same time. Not for my life, but for his.
“Now go.” He finished, “I’ll be right here when you’re done.”
Nodding in agreement, I headed to the shower and quickly got dressed in the soft casual dress I was given. I brushed my fingers through my damp hair as I came out to be greeted by a tired-looking Rostov.
“I don’t usually give compliments but right now you’re the most pleasant looking thing I’ve seen all week.”
Laughing at that, I flushed while placing my hand on his forehead, “You’re not drunk, are you?”
“No, Katrina. I’m not.”
At that exact moment, Vitaly cupped his hand at the back of my neck and gently pulled me towards him, “Tell me he didn’t hurt you.”
I was shocked at the sudden nearness he allowed, “W-what?”
“Dmitri. What did he do to you?”
“It’s doesn’t matter.” I frowned, “I’m okay now.”
“Tell me.” his voice almost growled.
“Well, he-”
I hesitated as I saw the murderous dark blue that stormed within his eyes.
“What did he do to you, Katherine?”
“He- well he- hit me.”
“Where?”
“I’m fine. Please don’t worry about me. I’m not that important to you, am I?”
He seemed to be in a fixed position when I asked that. Was he unsure of himself? Was he confused? To be honest, I never saw that expression plagued Vitaly’s face. But like all his rare expressions, it was short-lived.
“Are we going home now?” I asked in deep hope.
“Soon, I promise.” He replied with a sigh while removing his hand for me.
As we stepped out of the room, we were greeted by one of the previous employees who assisted us. He guided us back to the living area where Dmitri sat lazily on the sofa while the eighteen-year-old girl sat filing her nails. I couldn’t miss how harsh Vitaly’s look had been towards Dmitri. Honestly, it was nice seeing the big bad wolf being protective of me for a change. The employee wasted no time in escorting us towards the dining areas which was an open flow concept within the house.
“Please, be seated you two. I’m sure you’re hungry.” The middle-aged woman who I presumed owned this house smiled politely and took her seat at the table.
The female who looked around Vitaly’s age neared us and touched him seductively on his shoulder before he took a seat.
“Ne trogai menya.” Don’t touch me.
Her face twisted into something appalling and she proceeded to sit opposite him while I sat at his side.
“Please, do make yourselves comfortable.” The middle-aged woman suggested as she took a seat.
“I don’t know why you’re doing this, Regina. My terms and conditions are met and expired. I don’t see the need for all this child play now.”
“Oh,” Regina said with a little laugh, “Mr. Rostov, I’m just being hospitable.”
What was he talking about? What terms and conditions was he talking about?
At that sudden moment, my memory jogged back to Rebecca.
Oh, God.
I had to find out how she is.
I had to call her.
At that moment, the eighteen-year-old girl came and took her seat at the table with a frown towards Regina, “Mother, I’m hungry. Please tell your employees to have a little more speed. I’m tired of constantly waiting on those fools.”
“Relax, Diana. Have a little patience.”
“No, Diana is right mother.” The elderly girl spoke up, “If Oksana was here, they would have been flying.”
“Enough, Veronika! No one with utter Oksana’s name in this house again. Not even your brother. Do I make myself clear?”
“But she is your daughter as well!” the younger girl protested.
“Do not raise your voice at me.” Regina scolded her to silence.
That silence drifted awkwardly through the air for a few seconds until Vitaly cleared his throat. It wasn’t long until the food was served. No matter what, I couldn’t eat. I gently placed my hand on Vitaly’s lap and moved it up to the pocket of his jeans where his phone was.
“Rebecca,” I whispered to him worriedly.
At first, I thought he wasn’t going to bother about me but surprisingly he took his phone out and gave it to me. Regina’s attention suddenly locked onto me and tried to smile politely. The thought about taking her child’s life away from her made me feel so disgusted about myself. I felt as if my life was damned by an angry mother’s curses. I hated myself at that moment for what I did. I’m a horrible person. Yet, at the same time, I had to think about Rebecca as well.
“Please, excuse me.” I graciously stated and walked away from the table.
As I tried to call her phone, I was unable to get through to her. Well, that was odd. Rebecca always answered. Always. The only place that I know she would ever go would be at Cara’s house. With a hopeful sigh, I called only to have a ‘sleepy, confused, Cara who had no idea where Rebecca was’ answer the phone. I tried to assure her everything was fine and thankfully succeeded.
Where the hell was Rebecca?
What if something happened to her?
No.
Please no.
Worry plagued me as I turned to the side to take notes of Dmitri’s wicked smirk as he looked at me from the sofa in the living area.
That moment, I had the most gut-wrenching hunch that he had something to do with this.
It was him.
I just knew it!
My blood heated within me and I felt like stabbing him in the eye. If he messes with my friend, I swear on Vitaly’s sacred bipolarity that I will kill the no-good frying pan sucker.
My feet angrily made their way towards the cunning piece of crap as he stood from the sofa.
“So how was the-”
Before he could have completed that sentence, I slapped him across the face.
“You filthy bastard!” I spat.
“Katherine!” Vitaly’s cold voice perfumed through the air.
“How dare you!” Dianna scowled at me as she ran towards her brother’s side.
I ignored the little girl and locked my eyes murderously with Dmitri as I clutched his shirt vigorously, “Where is she? Tell me, what the hell did you do to her? Dmitri!”
“Katrina,” Vitaly’s voice was suddenly near me and I felt his presence at my side trying to calm me although it was futile.
“Vit-he- he has Rebecca. He- he has her, Vitaly.” I frantically replied in frustration, “He has Rebecca.”
“Calm down.”
“I can’t calm down! Oh God, I can’t! He has my best friend, who knows what he did to her!”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” Dmitri chuckled.
“You’re a liar!” I exclaimed.
“Dmitri,” Regina began calmly as she walked towards us with Veronika at her side, “Do you have anything to do with what the girl is saying?”
“Me, mother?” He scoffed, “No.”
“There. My son has given his word.”
Was she serious?
“Your son,” I frowned, “Tried to kill me.”
“And yet you’re alive?” she quickly replied, “I know what he is capable of.”
“Regina,” Vitaly began with a scowl, “Enough of this.”
“Alright, alright,” she smirked and looked towards Dmitri, “Where’s the other girl? What did you do to her?”
“What’s the matter, Rostov? Are you looking to buy another girl like you bought this one? Save one for me.” Dmitri chuckled while staring at me.
Buy me?
He did what?
“Whose list did you put her under?” Vitaly’s face suddenly turned to stone.
“Now that would be telling, wouldn’t it? And besides, I have nothing to do with it.”
In that second, Vitaly aggressively clutched his shirt, “Kogda ya naidu yeyo, ya ne poshazhu tebya.” When I find her, I won’t spare you.
“A girl for a girl doesn’t seem unfair to me to be quite honest.” Diana stated angrily, “Your friend for our sister. You’re lucky it’s not you that’s missing. Hell, you’re lucky your man saved your soggy ass. If you ask me, you should be dead just like my sister. You should be punished for what you did.”
Hearing the girl say that to me, for some reason, hurt. She hadn’t said anything wrong. I am lucky. It should be me instead of Rebecca. This wasn’t right. And I should be punished for what I did. I killed someone. I didn’t just hurt someone- I killed someone. My emotions conflicted within me. I didn’t know what to feel anymore.
“I had enough of this.” Vitaly stated angrily, “Oksana was a traitor and she’ll always be. If Donovan here hadn’t killed her, I assure you all that I would have.”
At that exact moment, he took my hand in his and pulled me out of the house with him. His hold on me was tight and angry yet it tingled my blood in the most peculiar manner.
Walking straight to a car, he opened the Ferrari door with a sigh.
“It’s going to be a long night, Donovan.”
